An organization that operated between 1963 and 2002 to promote unity of African states.

The primary objectives of Organisation of African Unity (OAU) included (1) putting an end to colonialism in all parts of Africa, (2) become a unified voice of all African nations, (3) promoting human rights in the continent, and (4) bettering the below-average life standard Africa.

OAU disbanded on 9 July 2002, and was replaced by the African Union shortly after.
