Führer

Discipline: Political Science

Also spelled as: führer

The commonly-used epithet for ADOLF HITLER that signifies his role in the Nazi regime.

The choice of führer as an epithet was made by Hitler himself. The word means "leader" or "guide" in German, and it was largely influenced by the Italian example, which appropriated the title il Duce to Benito Mussolini.
