Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union

The charter that protects the rights of the citizens and residents of the European Union.

It was drafted by the European Convention (1999-2000), which first met in December 1999. The Convention presented the charter on 2 October 2000. After the approval of the European Council and the European Parliament, it was proclaimed on 7 December 2000 in Nice, France.
